Jimmy Diaz

Head Coach & Co-Owner, USA Weightlifting Coach

2018 American Open Series Master’s Bronze Medalist (+105kg), 2019 Texas Weightlifting Championship Master’s Silver Medalist (109kg)

Jimmy discovered weightlifting as a CrossFit coach in 2012 and immediately fell in love with the sport. At this time Weightlifting had not yet reached its height in popularity like it has today. Specifically in Houston, access to knowledgeable, experienced coaches was scarce. In spite of this, he started a weightlifting club at his local gym with the hope of remedying the knowledge and access challenges he was facing and for others. He began experimenting with programming, attended multiple seminars/workshops, studied any literature about the sport he could find and reached out to veteran coaches in Texas to fine tune his coaching skills over the last couple of years. In 2017 he branched out to start Bravura Weightlifting with a goal to introduce and educate people about weightlifting, as well as, a way to help grow the sport in the Houston area. He has coached multiple athletes to and at national level events including the American Open Finals (formerly A.O. Championship), American Open Series, Under 25 National Championship & University National Championship. He has worked with all range of athletes from beginners to a USA Track & Field athlete and continues to work towards introducing more people to the sport of weightlifting.

Karen was introduced to weightlifting in 2011 through CrossFit. After 5 years, she became a CF-L1 coach in 2016 and coached for 3 years in Houston and Austin. While living in Austin, she attended a USAW certification with Ursula Papandrea and David Griffin of Teas Barbell Club, and trained under David for the remainder of the year. Upon moving back to Houston, she continued to lift at Bravura Weightlifting.
